Chaotic neutral here, I enjoy DnD, its really just that changing one or two rules really can make something really good work or give some variation, I already played other tabletops, but I just like dnd more, how the system works, for me its better and easier to fix the 1 or 2 things I don't like in dnd than look for a whole new system, it can be hard sometimes making a good homebrew, but I try my best I'm mostly a player, but sometimes I take to DM and I'm a very heavy focused Storyteller type of DM, to me the story is the main thing and the players are the protagonists of that story, their decisions affect the story and the story affect them back too, I'm right now DMing a campaign inspired in Japan, they finished the first part, the introduction (3 out of the 5 died lol, but was a good boss battle), they liked this first shot of the campaign and are excited for the next, they find very interesting the way I DM because most of them are used to DMs that focus more on what the players want or DMs who focus more on what they want, so having a DM that focus more on what the story is about and the message was a very interesting change of air for them, I sometimes allow some of them to bring some homebrews or change some stuff to make the game more fun, I always try to make it kinda balanced tho, I had to ban the whole artificer class once because someone was trying to break the table with it, kept denying it and after saying no and complaining a lot, would find a new way to break the table with the class, I may be an old player, but I'm new at DMing, it was my first time DMing dnd and 3rd as a DM overall, to me the rules of the books are the base, but as a DM I have the last word so I always tell them that if I change a rule, it's that way, if I don't change a rule, it's as written in the book, I try to make things fair most of the times and only bend the rules sometimes for story purposes (who never did it as DM), overall I usually have more problems dealing with players that don't take no as an answer, they are stubborn and I get angry pretty easily so the result is not the nicest, so I try my best to solve things talking instead of using authority, I just wish it was easier to deal with some players Well, I just really like DnD and wish I could play more often, the problem is finding a DM who actually do more than 2 sessions

I always felt dmpcs should either be there to cover a weakness in the party, like filling in as a healer if needed or a tank, or provide information if everyone failed an important check for plot. Basically, helpful but not overpowered

Alright I gotta say something. This "Edgy" situation is wild and I don't know how to really grapple with that one. Who knows what is really going on there. What I do want to know is what's with this whole "Edgelord" thing all the time? Somehow in D&D its ok to be some rascal rogue or blustery paladin or horny bard but it's always dive on the guy playing the "edgelord" character? I hear it come up in nearly all of these with the poster saying that one of the players is "That guy!" or that "edgelord" What's up with that? I mean all of these characters are cheesy fantasy archetypes right? Why is one better or worse than another? Same with someone having relationship fantasies watching a lifetime movie. You can laugh, and sometimes I'll admit that I do, but how is it more or less embarassing than pretending to be a fabled warrior in a mystical land when you really think about it? Maybe I just don't get it. All that is to say, why not let some poor kid get into his Batman with a sword fantasy! Maybe its the players playing these characters that are the real issue and not the archetype itself?

if the male charakter isnt immortal, then the half sibling relationship doesnt make sense. the woman is well over 100 years after all

gonna have to partially disagree with you on the moral ambivalent thing. like if a dm spends a lot of time and energy on places and people in a world and players are just like "HYUK HYUK IDC BOUT THAT DUDE" its pretty pointless and can be kind of frustrating. the concept you are putting forward is dependent on EVERYONE agreeing to that idea from the very beginning of the game. this hobby takes too much energy for people to play like inconsiderate jerks. f^ck the dm and the players in that one

I play a DMPC in my current campaign I’m running, I basically only help in combat and take the backseat for the majority of everything else. If they ever need a little help with what to do I try to help them in character, but other than that I’m just extra DPS to help in boss fights and heal players when they go down

I enjoy doing a self insert character when I DM, but the rule is simple, my insert won't fight for or against the party. More often then not, I'll resurrect one of my old characters as a quest giver, part of a quest, but my tried and tested favourite, is a merchant.
